This researcher invited me to participate in a project (“Managing Privacy in the Age of GenAI”) with three components: Study 1, Study 2, and Study 3. I spent 20 minutes trying to access the first study, but the researcher had failed to publish it in Google Drive, and the link they provided in Prolific redirected to a Google Drive error page. I tried contacting the researcher for help but received no response, so I returned Study 1. Somewhat to my surprise, I was then invited to complete Study 2 and Study 3, both of which were very brief, very simple tasks estimated to take no more than 6 minutes. I finished Survey 2 in four minutes and Survey 3 in three minutes— not shockingly short by any means, as the tasks were simple, brief, and regarded experiences that I’m familiar with, and I am a native English speaker with a a PhD. Three days later, the researcher rejected rejected my submission for Study 3, saying that I had completed it too quickly. I tried contacting the researcher to request a reevaluation, but I received no response. On the advice of other Prolific users, some of whom had received the same rejection, I withdrew my response to the (still under review) Survey 2, fearing another erroneous rejection from an incompetent or unscrupulous researcher. Stay far away.
