Some of the questions were quite confusing and the attention checks are quite annoying. It was approved though.

Talk about irony. In a study focused on financial misconduct and trust, I ran into what was apparently a "quality control question," not an attention check, about 20 questions in, after reading the introductory material on a situation that I wasn't sure I remembered well enough to answer. If I needed to take notes, I would have. Instead, my answer of "unsure" got me kicked out with this message: "Thank you for your participation. Based on your response to a survey quality-control question, you are not eligible to continue with the remainder of the survey. Your responses up to this point have been recorded." In other words, we got your data, and now we're going to boot you out without paying you for the six minutes you spent providing it. That's not a reasonable quality-control measure. It's financially exploitative, and it certainly doesn't inspire trust in researchers studying financial misconduct and trust.
